Kaws – From Graffiti To The Sculpture

Brian Donnelly is currently best known as the artist KAWS, was born in 1974 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration in 1996, KAWS  just started painting as much as possible,wherever he could and started getting into bombing on a more serious level,trying to cover larger areas of Jersey and Manhattan, especially Soho. From there He gots interested in piecing and doing large walls. He represent the DF, FC and TC5 crews.
He began his career as a graffiti artist growing up in Jersey City. After moving to New York City in the 1990s, KAWS started subverting imagery on billboards, bus shelters and phone booth advertisements. These reworked ads were at first left alone, lasting for up to several months, but as KAWS’ popularity skyrocketed, the ads became increasingly sought after.
KAWS museum exhibitions include solo shows at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, High Museum of Art, Modern Art Museum, and the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. Other international galleries include Galerie Perrotin and Honor Fraser Gallery. His work has been seen in Paris, London, Berlin, and Tokyo.
KAWS made ​​a series of paintings inspired by cartoons, such as The Simpsons, Mickey, Astro Boy, Hello Kitty, and SpongeBob. Since 2000, he has participated in numerous exhibitions in the world and has worked with brands such as Marc Jacobs, Comme des Garçons, Nike, Vans, Kiehl’s and other brands.
